A night for the Atelier in Gando

Dear friends,

How does it feel to build together an Atelier in Gando?

For the last 8 months, the community of Gando (Burkina Faso) has been working in building the Atelier, a community center with a focus towards supporting the educational, cultural, and sustainable needs of Francis Kéré´s native village. The Atelier, built with clay and eucalyptus, has a circular form that perfectly fits to the traditional construction techniques of Burkina Faso.

As a large number of Berlin friends donated towards the construction, we wanted them to be part of our community and feel the joy of building together. For this purpose, Schulbausteine für Gando organized "A night for the Atelier", a charity gala aimed to present the latest addition to the Gando school projects to the public and raise funds for the completion of the construction works. During the evening, attendees could purchase wooden model construction elements such as bricks, doors and roof girders and install them on the mock-up.

Architecture and building can be playful activities and are much more fun if played together.

Have a look on how Matthias Sauerbruch, Georg Augustin, Matthias Böttger and many other friends had fun building the Atelier with tiny wooden bricks and construction components. Enjoy the full gallery here.

Enjoy a timelapse of the evening that will leave you with one feeling: building together makes us stronger.
